PURPOSE:To retrieve easily a picture file by displaying the lower sorting and selecting gradually the desired picture films. CONSTITUTION:An operator uses a pointing device 9 like a mouth, etc. to shift a cursor within a frame of a desired attribute name and selects and clicks an attribute name to be retrieved. The attribute name is selected with clicking, and a list of the attribute values within the selected attribute name is displayed. When no desired attribute value is obtained on the screen of a graphic display device 7, another attribute value can be displayed. Therefore the operator shifts the cursor under the desired attribute value if displayed and clicks it. When the attribute value is selected, the function keys are operated to display the picture file corresponding to said attribute value to the device 7.
