PURPOSE:To obtain a focus adjusting device for an endoscope which makes a focus adjustment smoothly and facilitates a fine focus adjustment by coupling an operation wire with the lens frame of a focus adjusting lens through a speed reduction mechanism. CONSTITUTION:An objective optical system 4 is provided inside an observation window 2 provided on the tip surface of the tip part 1 of an insertion part, and an observation field image is formed on the image receiving surface of a solid-image pickup element 5 through the objective optical system 4. The lens frame 12 which holds the focus adjusting lens 11 is installed in a support cylinder 10 which holds the objective optical system 4 so that the frame in freely movable in directions of the optical system of the objective optical system 4. This mechanism as the speed reduction mechanism is driven by drawing and releasing the operation wire 19 to move forth and back the focus adjusting lens 11 in the optical-axis directions of the objective optical system 4 through a lever 16 whose lower end is supported pivotally on a fulcrum 0, thereby forming an in-focus image on the image receiving surface of the solid-state image pickup element 5.
