PURPOSE:To perform a data exchange only having one circuit enabling each subscriber to communicate even though there are a large number of protocols at each subscriber's terminal by recognizing the subscriber terminal protocols through a data exchanger and by routing data and programs which are necessary to communicate from an external storage. CONSTITUTION:When a subscriber terminal 10 transmits to a data exchange device 3 a connection demand signal together with protocol identification code to be communicated, a procedure controller 40 receives its connection demand signal through a circuit 20 and transmits the preceding protocol identification code to a central controller 6 through an input data bus 50. Once the central controller 6 receives its code, it checks for the external storage 8 whether the protocol data and programs required by subscriber terminal 10 are registered or not. If registered, its routing is demanded to the external storage 8. Its routing is performed from the external storage 8 to the procedure controller 40 after connecting its controller 40 with the external storage 8.
