PURPOSE:To perform an input and output of data at every logical record, by collecting plural peculiar physical record lengths and setting a virtual physical record when the logical record length of data exceeds peculiar physical record length. CONSTITUTION:Three peculiar physical record lengths of a floppy disk device 16, which are collected in one, are used as a virtual physical record and data entry control at every logical record is performed in the unit of the virtual physical record. A processor 12 detects whether or not the logical record length exceeds the physical record length and, when the former exceeds the latter, reads out data sets D11, D12, and D13 from the floppy disk device 16 at once, by combining three physical records into one. The processor 12 writes the read out data sets D11, D12m, and D13 in a buffer 14 and, after correcting them, in data sets D11, D12, and D13 at once. The same operations are performed on data sets D21, D22, and D23.
