PURPOSE:To attain reading with variable power by providing a storage means for storing plural lines' of digital signals corresponding to a line sensor reading pictures precedingly for signals larger than a deviation of a read position among plural line sensors arranged zigzag to correct the deviation of the read position between adjacent line sensors. CONSTITUTION:A contact type color CCD sensor unit 11 is provided with 5 CCD chips 21-25 arranged zigzag. The electric system consists of an analog processing section converting an output signal of the CCDs, a digital processing circuit, a memory and a memory control section. The memory consists of memory blocks corresponding to the CCDs 21-25, each memory block consists of plural small memory blocks, picture data of the CCDs 22, 24, reading precedingly the picture at sub-scanning is stored at each line in the small memory block, and the data of the same line is outputted from the CCD chips 21-25 at all times by reading the picture of the same line of the CCDs 22, 24 stored in synchronization with the read of the picture data by the succeeding CCDs 21, 23, 25.
