1. Method of fabrication of a cadmium electrode in which a porous support constituted by a metallic foam is impregnated with a paste containing an active substance of cadmium oxide and a plasticizing agent, characterized in that the metallic foam has a cross-linked structure having an open porosity which is higher than 95 % with a mean pore diameter within the range of 0.3 mm to 1 mm, the plasticizing agent is polytetrafluoroethylene which is present in said paste in a proportion of 2 to 4 % by weight with respect to the cadmium oxide, and the impregnation is carried out by filling the pores of the metallic foam throughout its thickness.
