PURPOSE:To improve weatherability so as to be suited for exterior coatings, by incorporating a graft polymer yielded by copolymn. either of (meth)acrylate and a radical-polymerizable silicone macromonomer or of three components of an additional particular crosslinkable monomer therewith. CONSTITUTION:The principal constituent of the resin for coatings is a graft polymer yielded either by copolymn. of a radical-polymerizable compd. consisting mainly of acrylate and/or methacrylate (A) with a radical-polymerizable silicone macromonomer (B) or by radical copolymn. of the component A, component B, and a crosslinkable monomer having a radical-polymerizable unsatd. bond and a nonradical-polymerizable reactive functional group in combination (C). The combined use of butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate is pref. as the above component A. The component B is a polymer with a number-average MW of 1,000-2,000, having a polymerizable functional group on one end of the molecular chain. The component C includes 2-hydroxyethyl (meth)acrylate.
