PURPOSE:To eliminate easily a blank page and to improve a memory capacity by providing an original reading means, a blank page detecting means for detecting a blank page out of originals and a code recording means for recording blank page information with the aid of the prescribed code. CONSTITUTION:In terms of a data line 1, the white and black of the original come to 'L' and 'H', respectively. A control circuit clears counters 3 and 4 by a clear input 6, and data is directly transferred by a memory access control. An AND circuit 2 detects the black, and its number is counted by the counter 3 and 4. When the counted value exceeds an arbitrarily set value 256, for instance, the effect is transmitted to the control circuit through a signal line 7, thus it is recognized not to be a blank page. Namely, where the counted value of blacks is below 256 since the data transfer of one page was started, an information signal is not issued, whereby it can be judged to be a blank page.
