PURPOSE:To permit efficient management of a figure recognition system by using a picture image memory belonging to the side of the main recognition processing device as memory map and outputting its contents as dot image on the screen. CONSTITUTION:The image surface input 1a by an image scanner 1 is sequentially supplied to a recognition processing device 2. The initial input image 4a belonging to the bit map 4 holds the scanner input level image input. The class is resolved in accordance with data attributes included in the image 4a and registered in separate dot map class as recognition result patterns 4b-4e. The monitor display 3 has a screen buffer 12 corresponding to the image 4a and patterns 4b-4e. With this constitution, partial images extracted by sequential incision 5 of the recognition portion are canceled from the bit map class of the image 4a with the timing the recognition results are registered on the map 4.
