PURPOSE:To paint exactly an automotive body without the variance in film thickness and without fluctuation in the parting line of painting by positioning and supporting the automotive body to a lifting table and painting the side sill in a static state. CONSTITUTION:A carriage 1 on which the automotive body W is imposed is carried into a station 4 in the stage of painting the side sill in the lower part on the side face of the automotive body to another color from the other part. Then a stopping device 6 operates to stop the carriage 1 in the prescribed position. The lifting table 7 moves upward in succession thereto to rise the body W through the through-window 1a of the carriage 1. The body on the carriage 1 is thus slightly lifted from the carriage 1. A painting machine 5 is moved forward and backward to spray the paint onto the side sill Wa in the lower part on the side face of the body W. The side sill is thus exactly painted without the fluctuation of the parting line of the painting to a wave shape in the vertical direction and without the variance in the thickness of the coated film.
