PURPOSE:To make the gap between substrates uniform even if substrates are not flat somewhat because of their own undulation, by providing spacers and oriented films facing each other so that they are brought closely into contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:A hard glass substrate is used as one of two light-transmissive substrates, for example, glass substrates, and a glass plate or an organic resin plate 1' which is so semihard that it can be bent when the gap is evacuated is used as the other. Prescribed electrodes for liquid crystal are formed with light-transmissive conductive films 2 and 2' consisting of an ITO, an SnO2, or the like on one surfaces of these substrates, and polyimide resin films 3 and 3' are formed thin, and they are subjected to the orienting treatment by rubbing. A polyimide solution 15 hardened by ultraviolet rays is applied and is prebaked, and it is exposed to light through a mask 1b having light transmission windows 17, thereby making it possible to scatter and arrange spacers.
