PURPOSE:Related to microbiological production of glycerol, to use it as a raw material for various products, by converting methanol to glycerol by the use of a fungus belonging to the genus Hansenula, capable of producing glycerol. CONSTITUTION:A fungus such as Hansenula polymorpha MCI1976(FERMP-7954), etc., belonging to the genus Hansenula, etc., capable of glycerol is added to a reaction solution containing methanol, and methanol is converted into glycerol. The concentration of methanol is about 0.05-10vol%, the reaction solution is preferably a medium or a buffer solution. When the medium is used, a carbon source such as ethanol, glucose, etc. and a nitrogen source, etc. are added to it, and cultivation is done under an aerobic condition. Glycerol is collected from the reaction solution and purified by applying a commonly used method. |
