PURPOSE:To obtain a picture with high resolution by providing plural horizontal transfer paths at both sides of an optical sensor section to read a signal from the optical sensor section thereby reading a picture signal in a short time from many image pickup cells. CONSTITUTION:A solid-state image pickup device 100 consists of the optical sensor section 1 stimulating a photoelectric charge through photodetection and transferring the charge in the vertical direction, the 1st and 2 nd horizontal transfer lines 2, 3 arranged at one side of the optical sensor section 1 and transferring horizontally the photoelectric charge, the 1st and 2nd transfer gate sections 4, 5 and the 3rd and 4th horizontal transfer lines 6, 7 arranged at the other side of the optical sensor section 1, a memory section 11 storing tentatively the photoelectric charge from the optical sensor section 1, and the 3rd-5th transfer gate sections 8-10. The optical sensor section 1 is constituted as N sets of the 1st-4th vertical transfer lines 111-114 and the 1st-4th image pickup cell arrays 121-124 pairs.
