PURPOSE:To correct the input characters easily and quickly by detecting the positions of handwritten characters supplied via a tablet and performing a correction process where the display output position of the input character is moved back by a single character. CONSTITUTION:When characters are written to a form set on a tablet 11, the positions of these characters are detected by an input character position detecting part 2. The characters written within a normal input frame of the form are processed by a normal processing part 4. Then the display positions of characters are moved forward by a character at a display part 7. Then a recognition part 5 extracts the feature elements of the input characters and collated with those feature elements stored in a feature dictionary 6. Then the recognized characters are displayed at the part 7. If the recognition of characters is impossible, a correction processing part 3 works to move back the character display position by a character at the part 7. Thus the correction is possible easily and quickly for the input characters.
