PURPOSE:To reduce resistance due to waves produced out of the bows, by installing a member in a hull inner part of a bow submerged part projectably frontward, while projecting this member to the front a bow end in optimum length corresponding to a ship headway. CONSTITUTION:A casing 6 is set up inside a bulbous bow 2 along a hull center line. Inside this casing 6, there is provided with a member 7 free of projection to the front of the bulbous bow 2 by hydraulic driving devices 9, 10 and 12. Therefore, when a ship being designed so as to cause the bulbous bow 2 to become an optimum form at full-load draft is navigated as being fully loaded, the member 7 is retracted into the casing 6. When the ship sails in a light load state, the vicinity of an apex of the bulbous bow 2 is exposed in the air whereby forefoot waves are produced there. However, the member 7 is projected as far as the specified length L to the front of the bulbous bow 2 in response to a ship headway so that these forefoot waves and the like are checked, thus wave resistance is reduced.
