PURPOSE:To improve operability of a magnetic head by arranging so that when the magnetic head is moved in the advance direction of a magnetic recording medium, the magnetic head is limited only to the vertical motion and the spring is accommodated in the hold casing. CONSTITUTION:A coil extending from the magnetic head 11 is connected to a flexible printed board 17. A vibration damper 14 is provided to both the ceiling and the bottom of the hold casing 13 to damp vibrations transmitted to a head attachment plate 15 and a coil spring 12 from the magnetic head 11. In this construction, when the magnetic head 11 abuts to the magnetic recording medium, if the medium is moved in the advance direction, the magnetic head 11 is not reciprocated in that direction but only moved vertically so that vibrations of the magnetic head 11 is minimized. The vertical vibrations produced on contact between the magnetic recording medium and the magnetic head 11 are transmitted to a head attachment plate 15 and thence to the coil spring 12. These vibrarions are damped by the upper and lower dampers 14.
