PURPOSE:To increase the adhesion of the surface of a vulcanized polyolefin rubber base to a paint or an adhesive to be applied thereto, by coating the surface of the base with a composition obtained by adding a halogen compound to a solution of an unvulcanized rubber as an undercoat. CONSTITUTION:A halogen compound is added to a solution or dispersion of an unvulcanized rubber to form a composition containing the unvulcanized rubber bound with a halogen. Examples of said unvulcanized rubbers include synthetic rubbers such as EPDM, SBR and NR and natural rubber. Examples of solvents for the unvulcanized rubbers which can be used include benzene, toluene, dioxane, acetone and ethyl chloride or a mixture thereof. Examples of said halogen compounds include N-bromosuccinimide, trichloroisocyanuric acid, dichlorodimethylhydantoin and t-butyl hypochlorite. The amount of this halogen compound is preferably 0.01-10pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. rubber solids in the unvulcanized rubber solution.
