PURPOSE:To produce the magnetic head assemblies of different types on the same line and with the same holder by providing a type identifying means like a pin, etc. to a holder which holds a sheet type member containing a gimbal and detecting the state of said identifying means by a microswitch, etc. CONSTITUTION:A sheet type member 33 is held between an upper frame 37a and a lower frame 37b, and the holes 51A-51F of a holder 37 are fitted at the holes 51a-51f of the member 33 respectively. Then the pins 52 are put through those holes to fix the member 33 and the holder 37. Plural holes 55 are drilled through the holder 37 and the type setting pins 56 are put into the holes 55. Thus many types of identification are possible with combinations of pins 56 of different heights. A microswitch is provided to each station for detection of high pins 56, and the contents of jobs are set previously by detecting the height of the pins 56. As a result, various magnetic head assemblies are obtained by sharing just a single type of holder 37.
