PURPOSE:To minimize the effect of the loss time and to ensure the high-speed working of a streaming magnetic tape device, by prefetching an instruction to be given to the streaming magnetic tape device. CONSTITUTION:A streaming magnetic tape device 4 is connected to an input BUS6 via an interface control circuit 3 and receives the instruction of a processor 2 under the control of a bus controller 5. Then the device 4 performs the input/output of data to a memory 1 by a direct memory access. The circuit 3 performs the acceptance of a start instruction, the actuation and the end processing for each block and also prefetches the start information on the instruction following the (N+1)-th order before start of the N-th instruction. Thus the N-th instruction undergoes an error check when its actuation is over. If no fault is detected, the action control is carried out so that an instruction is delivered to the device 4 based on the prefetched start information prior to the end processing and the acceptance of the (N+1)-th start instruction. The prefetching operation is carried out also with data in the same way.
