PURPOSE:To obtain a selective gas separation membrane having high stength, large oxygen permeability and oxygen/nitrogen selectivity, by using a polymer of fumaric diester having a silicon-containing alkyl group. CONSTITUTION:A fumaric diester polymer containing at least 20mol% of a repeating unit represented by formula (wherein X is a group selected from a group consisting of an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an aryl group, a trialkylsilylalkyl group and a siloxane-containing alkyl group and Y is a group selected from a group consisting of a trialkylsilylalkyl group and a siloxane- containing alkyl group) is used. The remainder of the polymer pref. comprising a fumaric diester polymer containing no silicon. The MW of the polymer is pref. within a range of 0.05-5 as a critical viscosity value measured in benzene at 30 deg.C. A casting solution prepared by dissolving this polymer in a solvent at concn. of 0.5-30% is used to obtain a membrane with a thickness of 0.01-200mum. By this method, a selective gas separation membrane, wherein oxygen transmission coefficient is 10<-9> or more and the ratio of the transmission coefficients of oxygen and nitrogen is 3.5 or more, is obtained.
