PURPOSE:To save the time by using a speech recognition unit to discriminate an opposite party and recording a message on a recording medium while replying automatically a call from a person with the lower priority. CONSTITUTION:When a call signal is sent through a reception signal line, a speech recognition section 1 sends a control signal to a speech synthesis section 6. When the synthesis section 6 receives a control signal, the section 6 sends a sound signal pattern inquiring the name of the opposite party. The output of the synthesis section 6 is sent to a transmission signal line via a switch 9. When the opposite party replies, the sound signal is inputted to the recognition section 1, where the pattern is converted into a recognition pattern. The recognition pattern from the recognition section 1 is compared with the content read from a name storage section 3 at a pattern comparison section 2 and when they are coincident, the message is recorded on a recording medium 8.
