PURPOSE:To store and hold a written light image stably for a specific period by joining a continuous conductive layer which stores and holds an irradiated light image as a difference in resistance with a display member layer which displays the light images stored and held in the continuous conductive layer as a visible image corresponding to the distribution of an applied voltage based upon the difference in resistance. CONSTITUTION:The continuous conductive layer 10 which stores the resistance decrease of a part irradiated with the rays of light and functions to store and hold the irradiated light image as the resistance difference, and the display member layer 20 displays the light image stored and held in the continuous conductive layer 10 as the visible image corresponding to the distribution of the applied voltage; and the both are jointed together integrally. Consequently, the written light image is stored and held stably for a specific period without using any special memory, so that a memory type light valve which is realized at low cost is obtained.
