PURPOSE:Patterns of outline data are converted to binarized patterns of two- dimensions by forming and combining one-dimensional mask data where in respect to all outline points one side is '1' and the other side '0'. CONSTITUTION:The microprocessor 7, after segmenting character pattern of the memory circuit 6 with outline data for each character, forms binarized character pattern from the one-dimensional binarized mask pattern and exclusive OR operation (EOR) pattern, coping with outline points and converted binarized patterns; carries this out for all outline points, converting outline data to binarized patterns. Thence compare by carrying out pattern matching processing with the standard pattern stored in the dictionary file 8 and the coincident standard pattern are outputted as recognition results.
