PURPOSE:To reduce the storage capacity of a specific program by storing specific instructions which are long in code length and relatively high in frequency of use in a machine code program in the form of shorter compressed machine codes. CONSTITUTION:A program to be compressed which is received from an unshown external storage device, etc., through an interface 14 is stored in a RAM11 temporarily. Then, a program for compression processing which is written in a ROM 13 is executed by a CPU 12 and the instructions which are long in code length and high in frequency in the specific program are compressed by being converted into undefined codes, etc. The compressed codes are written in a ROM 15 successively through a ROM writer 16. codes which are judged that they need not be compressed are written as then are.
