PURPOSE:To realize a compact contactless bearing, by generating a surface traveling wave compounding a transverse wave and a longitudinal wave by a stator and placing a relative space, between the stator and a mover, in a dynamic pressure condition. CONSTITUTION:A stator 1, secured to a piezo-electric unit 4, generates a surface wave compounding a transverse wave and a longitudinal wave. Then each material point on a stator surface 1a performs an elliptic vibration, and its surface wave moves at a speed of acoustic velocity U. When this surface wave advances, a movement of the wave generates a pressure by the wedge action in an air layer between the stator 1 and a mover 2 corresponding to a shaft, and a contactless condition is generated in the layer 3 between these two objects performing a relative motion.
