PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer compound which can give a molding excellent in heat resistance, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, strength, etc., by reacting an oxazoline derivative with a polyfunctional compound having atomic groups capable of undergoing condensation reaction in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An oxazoline derivative of formula I (wherein R<1> is an l-valent aliphatic, alicyclic or aromatic hydrocarbon, R<2>, R<3>, R<4> and R<5> are each a lower alkyl or hydrogen, and l is 1-4), (e.g., 2-phenyl-DELTA<2>-oxazoline or 2,4,5- trimethyl-DELTA<2>-oxazoline) is reacted with a polyfunctional compound having a plurality of atomic groups capable of undergoing condensation reaction (at most one for -COOH), e.g., formula II or formula III, in the presence of a catalyst (e.g., phosphonitrilic chloride or phosphonitrilic bromide). In this way, the purpose polymer compound suitable for molding materials, paints, adhesives, films or the like can be obtained.
