PURPOSE:To perform an efficient and rapid information exchange by providing a means for generating a calling indicating interruption signal in receiving a calling signal on a line in a modem connected to a public telephone line in a communication system through a non-procedure control. CONSTITUTION:When a modem receives a calling signal from other terminal 13 through a network control device NCU 11 and a public telephone line network 14, from a modem 12 a calling indicating interruption signal (CI interruption) is generated. When a processing device (personal computer) PC14 detects the CI interruption by a check of the CI interruption through a timer routine, it erects a CI interruption flag and transmits a transmission interruption signal (X-OFF) to the terminal 13 through the model 12. On a display device DP, an 'existence of receipt' is displayed and a receipt of the CI interruption thereafter is temporarily stopped and a job performing at present is stopped. In the next place, a transmission restarting signal (X-ON) is transmitted and a communication processing is executed. In such a manner, information exchange between the device 14 and the terminal 13 can be efficiently and rapidly carried out.
