PURPOSE:To input a 'KANJI' (Chinese character) with a simple operation by providing a means for discriminating whether an input data is a 'KANJI' code or a 'YOMI' (Japanese equivalent to a 'KANJI') during the 'KANJI' being inputted and a means for changing over an input mode in accordance with this discriminating result. CONSTITUTION:'YOMI' or a period code is inputted to a CPU by a keyboard 1, and an input of a converting key for a conversion processing is carried out and then whether the input data is the 'YOMI' or the period code is discriminated from the contents. In case of the 'YOMI', 'KANJI' conversion is performed through a dictionary and displayed on a display device 3. In the next place, a selection is done by the use of a selecting key by an operator and the result is stored in a RAM. In case of the input being the period code, when an input code of four digits is all specific number, it is converted into an internal code through the dictionary. When non-specific number is included therein, this is made the specific number by operation and thereafter, converted further into the internal code. Thereby, a change-over key is not required, an input operation is simple and an operability can be enhanced.
