DICTIONARY RETRIEVE DEVICE

PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for registration of all representation forms taken by composite words into a dictionary by converting a section character into a section character appearing in a phrase dictionary and applying dictionary retrieval when the section character is detected in an input character string. CONSTITUTION:A translation comprising a character string consisting of alphabets is registered in advance in a word/phrase dictionary 3. Further, a section character forming a composite word is registered in advance in a character dictionary storage section 5. Moreover, plural words forming composite words are registered in advance to a phrase dictionary storage section 6 as a phrase where the representation form is unified. Then a section character converting section 7 obtains section character information from the storage section 5 to a character string taken as disable retrieval by a dictionary retrieval section 2a and converts it into the representation form registered in the dictionary 6. A dictionary retrieval section 2b retrieves whether or not the converted character string is registered in the storage section 6 based on the conversion and when the retrieval is finished, the phrase is outputted via an output section 4.
