PURPOSE:To make possible to automatically designate a cutting region by dividing all the surfaces of a three-dimensional object into the aggregates of surfaces enclosed with sharp ridgelines by a ridgeline judgement section, and generating a cutting path for the above aggregate of surfaces in a cutting path designating section. CONSTITUTION:The figure data of a three-dimensional object 21 are stored in the figure storage 1 of a computer as boundaries expressed with ridgelines E1-E21, surfaces F1-F9 and points V1-V14. A ridgeline judgement section 2 examines the figure of all the ridgelines E1-E21 in the figure data, and classifies them into two groups, and thereby a surface dividing section 3 divides the surfaces belonging to each region enclosed with the ridgelines respectively. Next, a cutting designating section 4 generates a cutting path for a region in each divided group to drive a tool fixed to machine tool by a servo circuit 5. Consequently, the cutting region can be automatically designated, and in spite of the complicate figure data, can be correctly established to prevent an error in cutting process.
