PURPOSE:To obtain invariably proper printed matter even when an improper color original picture which provides a large feeling of turbidity and an impression of darkness on the whole and is improper as a print original is given by providing a means which corrects a turbid component. CONSTITUTION:Pieces of color information (r), (g), and (b) of respective picture elements of color original picture information which is read out of the original picture by a scanner and stored in a memory previously are inputted to normalize the level of the color information between '0' and '1', and the normalized values are made into complementary numbers, thereby obtaining pieces of complementary color information (c), (m), and (y). Then, the pieces of complementary color information are sorted and rearranged in decreasing order, and the separation and conversion processing of hue information, the separation and conversion processing of turbidity information, and the separation and conversion processing of gradation information are carried out in parallel. In this case, turbidity correction processing 10 is provided newly for the turbidity information processing and pieces of turbidity information c1', m1' and y1' are inputted and corrected pieces of turnidity information c1'', m1'', and y1'' are outputted. Consequently, invariably proper printed matter is 0obtained even when a color original picture which has a large feeling of turbidity and is improper as a print original is given.
