PURPOSE:To use an electric capacitive roughness gauge even when maximum height or '+' point mean roughness is employed by finding roughness values of two masters by a probe type roughness gauge and inputting those numerals to a display unit. CONSTITUTION:Two masters which has a proper interval between roughness values are used and roughness values are measured by the probe type roughness gauge; a fine value is denoted as Rm1 and a rough value is denoted as Rm2. Then, the roughness value Rm1 is set in a sum wheel switch 1 and then displayed on the digital display panel 3 while the electrode surface of a roughness detection probe is pressed against the fine roughness master surface. Then, the electrode surface is pressed against the rough master surface to display its roughness on the panel 3 and the Rm2 is displayed while matched with the roughness value of the master by a potentiometer 5. This operation stores R values corresponding to electric capacities Cm1 and Cm2 of the gap due to the roughness of the master in the display unit. Then, when the electrode surfaced is pressed against to a surface to be measured, a numeral which is nearly proportional to the electric capacity of the gap is displayed as the roughness value of a set parameter.
