NEW MATERIAL:A DELTA<2>-1,2,4-triazolin-5-one derivative shown by the formula I [R is H, alkali metal, quaternary ammonium salt, aliphatic hydrocarbon group (may be interrupted by O, S, SO or SO2), halogen-substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon group, alicyclic hydrocarbon group which may be replaced with halogen, carboxy alkyl group, its ester group or aromatic aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may contain substituent group (halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, nitro, etc.). EXAMPLE:1-{4-Chloro-2-fluoro-5-[1-(n-butoxycarbonyl)ethoxy}phenyl-4-di fluo romethyl-3-methyl-DELTA<2>-1,2,4-triazolin-5-one. USE:An agricultural agent, especially a herbicide. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula II is reacted with a compound shown by the formula III (Z is halogen) to give a compound shown by the formula I.
