PURPOSE:To eliminate the contact of magnetic heads when a magnetic disk is not inserted by constituting such that only the 2nd flat spring installed separately from the 1st flat spring of a lifter cannot be shifted downward in spite of the locking of a handle. CONSTITUTION:When the handle 11 is locked without the magnetic disk being inserted into a magnetic disk drive device, a clamp cam 14 moves the lifter 15 downward against the energization in a direction C, and a diskette detecting cam 19 is energized by a spring 21 and disposed in a vertical direction. A magnetic head holding cam 19a coupled to the cam 19 is also disposed in the vertical direction. Since a projection 18b engaged with the dam 19a cannot shift downward, the 2nd flat spring 18 separates from the 1st flat spring 15b. Accordingly an upper carridge 22 engaged with a spring 18 also cannot move down-ward, and the magnetic heads are separated each other even if the handle is locked.
