PURPOSE:To operate an electrical dust precipitator in the optimum efficiency for dust having high resistance by elevating the operation voltage for a spark discharge for a short time and lowering the operation voltage to the prescribed voltage after the generation of the spark discharge. CONSTITUTION:In the relation to a controlling method for an electrical dust precipitator, while detecting the voltage of an electrical dust collecting electrode with a detector 36 and supervising the signal, the peak voltage is elevated every period preset previously and a control signal is sent to a controller 31 or an AC electric power controller 22. Thereby the output of a DC high voltage electric power source 32 is increased and the voltage of a capacitor 26 is elevated and the peak voltage is elevated and the spark discharge is caused. When this spark discharge is detected with the controller 31, the initial control value of 75-95% spark voltage is calculated and the voltage of the capacitor 26 is controlled so that the peak voltage is made to this control value. Since the operation is always controlled in the voltage lower than the spark voltage in such a way, the electrical dust precipitator can be operated in the optimum efficiency for dust having high resistance.
