PURPOSE:To obtain the titled medium having high coercive force and flux density and capable of high-density recording by forming a ferromagnetic metallic thin film as the magnetic layer with an oblique vapor-deposited film contg. cobalt, iron and chromium in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:An oblique vapor-deposited film having the composition shown by the formula is formed on a nonmagnetic carrier by providing a substrate holder in a vacuum chamber, fixing the nonmagnetic carrier to the holder and inclining the substrate holder so that the nonmagnetic carrier is inclined to a vapor stream from a vaporization source. The vapor deposition is carried out by heating and vaporizing a ferromagnetic metallic material in 10<-4>-10<-5>Torr vacuum and depositing the vapor on the nonmagnetic carrier. The oblique vapor deposition wherein the vapor of the ferromagnetic metallic material is obliquely deposited on the nonmagnetic carrier is adopted to obtain higher coercive force.
