PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of an information transmission from a main transmission path by transmitting a sound information after it is converted to a character code at a transmitting station side to a receiving station via a transmission path and transmitting a synthesized sound information from the character code to a receiving telephone set at the receiving station. CONSTITUTION:An information inputted from a transmitting telephone set 1 with voice is converted to the character code at a speech recognition part 5 in the transmitting station; namely, at the speech recognition part 5, a feature extraction, for example, such as the Fourier transform spectrum of an inputted sound signal is performed. And by comparing an extracted feature with a dictionary pattern which represents the correspondence of a feature series with the character pattern which is registered in advance at the speech recognition part 5, it is converted to the character code corresponded with the inputted sound signal and after that, it is transmitted from a conversion circuit A3 to a conversion circuit B6 via the transmission path under the control of an exchange control part 4. When the character code is received, the character code is converted to the sound information at a speech synthesis part 8 in the receiving station and the sound information is transmitted to a designated telephone set 9.
