PURPOSE:To allow sheet materials to be stably fed by configurating a device in such a way that a feed roller is allowed to press down the uppermost sheet by means of a press member which is driven by the power source for the feed roller, then, the sheet material is pulled out and is fed, and after it is pulled out, the roller is suspended allowing the press force to be released. CONSTITUTION:While a drive shaft 15 is rotated, a press member 20 is engaged with a feed roller 4 so as to press sheet materials P. Here, a press lever 21 is provided between a pair of stoppers 22 and 23, and one stopper is pushed against the other stopper 23 by a spring 24 which acts as a torque limiter 26 to the lever 21. Accordingly, when the roller 4 is rotated to the direction C as shown by an arrow head, a rotational force is applied to the lever 21 to the direction D as shown by an arrow head allowing a rotating shaft 17 to be pressed down. This causes the roller 4 to press the upper surface of the sheet material P'. However, when the rotation of the roller 4 is suspended, as the rotational force to the lever 21 is released, the press force by the roller 4 is released simultaneously. In this case, the drive shaft 15 is rotated through a clutch 14 which is intermittently actuated.
