PURPOSE:To store plural word data in a limited memory capacity by reading word data out of a disctionary memory and providing a read means which restores the data of a word data prt to its original English word in accordance with the data of an addition information part. CONSTITUTION:The word data is read out of the dictionary memory 12, and a CPU 10 restoring the data of the word data part on the basis of the data of the addition information part and the 1st-3rd conversion tables 13-15 are provided. When an English word is inputted through key groups 3-7, each compressed part of the single datum in the memory 12 is restored to its original English word by the CPU 10 and the conversion tables 13-15 on the basis of the addition information. The CPU 10 discriminates whether or not the restored English word is equal to the inputted English word, and the result is displayed on a display part CRT 8. Thus an electronic dictionary storing plural word data in a reduced limited memory capacity can be obtained when the English word is stored in the memory 12.
