PURPOSE:To make possible the evaluation of the dielectric breakdown strength of PE from the relation between the degree of forming spherulite and dielectric breakdown strength by observing the patterns of the lamella (planar crystal) and amorphous region of the PE. CONSTITUTION:A PE insulator (for example, cable insulator ) or material (pellet) is magnified to the size at which the observation of the lamella and amorphous region of the PE is made possible at the magnification (1,000-100,000 times) the class of an electron microscope. The patterns of the lamella and the amorphous region are then observed. The dielectric breakdown strength is then evaluated from the preliminarily formed master curve indicating the relation between the degree of forming master curve indicating the relation between the degree of forming spherulite and dielectric breakdown strength. The evaluation of the dielectric breakdown strength of the PE is made possible without executing the breakdown test.
