PURPOSE:To attain the processing of broken bank notes for each prescribed amount by displaying the types of notes and the total number of notes when the type-based total number of notes exceeds the prescribed value and subtracting an integer multiple of the prescribed value from the storage contents for replacement. CONSTITUTION:When an operator supplies the notes and drives a note sorting/counting device 1, a discriminating part decides the types, the genuineness, etc. of the notes. Then the notes are divided into storing parts for each type. The money type signal of the discriminating part stores the number of notes in a RAM 10 for each type via an interface 11. Then the operator pushes an end key to read the data on the number of notes sorted and counted and the total number of notes out of the RAM 10 and adds them to a memory part 8. Here a control part 7 reads out the total data for guide display from the part 8 to decide whether the total number of notes fed manually exceeds the prescribed value (100 sheets) or not. Then the part 7 displays the extra number of notes on a CRT display part 5. Then the operator processes manually the broken notes and pushes a cancel key and subtracts the prescribed value or a multiple of the prescribed value from the total data on the types of notes for replacement.
