PURPOSE:To improve demulsibility, by incorporating an alkylolamide nonionic surfactant in an additive for fuel oil contg. an oil-soluble alkaline earth metal compd. CONSTITUTION:An intended additive for fuel oil can be obtained by incorporat ing an alkaline earth metal compd. (e.g.: barium salt of oleic acid or calcium salt of dodecylphenol). Preferred alkylolamide nonionic surfactant is a surfactant of the formula (wherein R is a 5-24C acyl residue; A is a 2-24C alkylene; R' is (AO)nH or hydrogen atom; m is an integer of 1 or more; n is an integer of 0 or 1 or more; and m+n is 1-20), and specific examples thereof include stearic acid monoethanolamide and oleic acid diethanolamide. The amount thereof to be added is preferably 0.1-20% based on the weight of the additive for fuel oil.
