PURPOSE:To record additional information on an optimum position in accordance with the direction of an original with a simple constitution by arranging display means for additional information on plural positions of an original placing plate and selecting an optimum display means in accordance with the direction of the original. CONSTITUTION:The display means 20 for displaying additional information such as a date with liquid crystal are arranged on the positions A, B parallel with a scale plate 21 of the original placing plate 2 and the positions C, D along both the side edges 2a, 2b of the width direction so as to be moved. When an original is horizontally written, any one of the positions A, B is selected and the display means 20 is emitted by any one of selecting keys 24a, 24b connected to the selected position to record the original on recording paper. In case of characters parallel with the longitudinal side, the display means 20 corresponding to any one of the positions C, D is similarly selected. Thereby, the additional information can be recorded on an optimum position in accordance with the direction of the original.
