PURPOSE:To obtain a stable combustion flame at the time of ignition and stopping of combustion by providing a conductive member on the outer surface of a combustion assisting member, and constituting a pilot igniter of a conductive member and an igniting spark member. CONSTITUTION:When the pilot burner is set to 'operation', only air is fed through a main gas feed tube 3, and after completion of prepurge of a set time combustion chamber, and a pilot gas is fed through a pilot gas fed through a pilot gas feed tube 5 to the pilot burner, the gas ejected from the feed tube 5 passes through a combustion assisting member 1 together with air and is directed toward the outer surface. Since the combustion assisting member 1 is constituted of irregular polygonal particles to form uniform irregular clearance passages in the entirety, the pilot gas flow is unified. The gaseous mixture which has reaches the outer surface of the combustion assisting member is ignited by the discharge of the ignition spark member to form a flame on the surface of the conductive member. The gaseous mixture from the main gas feed tube 3 reaches the outer surface of the auxiliary burning member, and is ginited by the pilot flame. Thus, the combustion is carried out over the entire surface of the outer surface of the combustion assisting member. However, since the pilot gas feed tube 5 is provided in the inner side of the combustion assisting member, an excellent pilot flame is constantly formed on the outer surface of the conductive member even at the time of the starting the main combustion.
