PURPOSE:To decrease the final disposal expense of the dewatered sludge by mixing a powdered newspaper into the dewatered sludge together with a high polymer flocculating agent to flocculate the sludge, by dewatering the flocculated sludge by a screw press and by lowering the percentage of water content. CONSTITUTION:A newspaper slurry solution obtained by dissolving newspaper in water to make it slurrylike or a powdered newspaper obtained by pulverizing newspaper is injected or mixed into the concentrated sludge together with the high polymer flocculating agent to flocculate the sludge, and this flocculated sludge is dewatered by a screw press. Thus, the percentage of water content of the dewatered cake is lowered and the final disposal expense of the dewatered cake can be decreased.
