The production of a shaped part by powder metallurgy from compacted and formed powder particles, at least one metallic included component being included heterogeneously in another, matrix component present in excess, is to be improved as regards the process involved. This is achieved by the fact that powder particles (2) consisting of the matrix component (4) and thinly coated with the included component (3) are compacted and formed to form the shaped part (1) and that the shaped part (1) is subjected to a heat treatment in such a way that the coating of the particles (2) coagulates to form very fine included particles (5) and the powder particles are metallically bonded to form the matrix (6). <IMAGE>
