In an apparatus for separating off solid components from liquids produced in work rooms, comprising a vessel (2), which is provided with a top inlet (1) for the liquid loaded with the solid components, and which serves for receiving the inflowing liquid and for trapping the settled solid components, which vessel has a drain orifice (3) at the side and an outlet orifice (5), connectable to a waste water pipe (4), for the liquid freed from the solid components, it is intended that only a single simply designed vessel type be required for different separation purposes, loss of the solid components being avoided and a simple cleaning of the vessel being possible, for which reason the vessel (2) is designed as a single-chamber vessel and is furnished in the region of the inlet (1) with braking components (6) calming the flow of the inflowing liquid, the drain orifice (3) being arranged at a marked distance beneath the top edge of the vessel (2) and on the outside, a drainpipe piece (7) being connected to the vessel (2) at the drain orifice (3), which drainpipe piece is bent with respect to the axis (8) of the drain orifice (3) and is pivotable about said axis (8). <IMAGE>
