Moving bed filter unit for purifying gas streams or air streams by the multiple path sorption principle for carrying out a purification process, in which the gas stream, after each separation stage, is divided into two part-streams and each part-stream, depending on its degree of purification in the first stage of a packed bed of defined degree of loading, is fed to the second stage. This is achieved by the two filter chambers being connected by intermediate chambers, which are divided into part-chambers, where the part-chamber having the least purified part-stream from the lower filter bed zone of the first separation stage is connected to the part-chamber which is connected to the less loaded, that is top, packed bed of the second separation chamber and conversely, the part-chamber having the more highly purified part-stream from the top packed bed of the first separation stage is connected to the part of the second stage which is connected to the more highly loaded packed bed of the second separation stage. In this case, the connection pieces of the part-chambers are conducted past each other in a cross-over. The filter material or sorption material in this case is transferred from the second to the first moving bed. <IMAGE>
