PURPOSE:To reduce the surface defects of a hot dipped strip by placing a snout between a reduction annealing furnace and a molten metallic bath for hot dipping so as to keep a strip in noncontact with the air and by blowing a gas into the snout from the outside so as to remove dross on the bath. CONSTITUTION:One end of a snout 20 is connected to a reduction annealing furnace and the other end is put in a molten metallic bath for hot dipping. A strip 2 is continuously hot dipped through the snout 20. At this time, an inert gas or a reducing gas is blown on the surface of the molten metallic bath in the snout 20 through a nozzle 3 and dross 6 accumulated on the surface of the bath is discharged from a discharge outlet 7 through a fan 8.
