PURPOSE:To display a sharp picture with high precision by burying metallic wire electrodes in a plastic film so that these electrodes are partially projected and arranging substrates, which are connected electrically to metallic wire electrode to form heating bodies, so that they face each other and holding a liquid crystal, whose optical properties are changed by heat, between substrates. CONSTITUTION:Two substrates 11 are so arranged that electrodes 13 are orthogonal to each other, and they are constituted in a matrix, and a polymer medium 17 is filled between heating bodies 15 for the purpose of preventing diffusion of heat. A polymer like an epoxy resin is used as the polymer medium 17, and this polymer is dissolved in a proper solvent and is flowed between heating bodies. A liquid crystal layer 19 is held between substrates 11 and 11, and a thermochromic liquid crystal using the change of helical pitch or the like is used as the liquid crystal, and it is preferable that the microcapsuled liquid crystal and a binder are mixed and are coated as a liquid crystal ink to form the liquid crystal layer 19.
